Old Government House

Description

The Government Ridge area has a rich and diverse history, extending back to the time before European settlement of the west, through the establishment of the North West Territories, and the North West Rebellion.  The Ridge presently contains the remains the building that was constructed and used when Battleford was Capital of the North West Territories.

This site is dedicted to the history of Government House, which was destroyed by fire in 2003.  People throughout the province and across Canada have expressed sorrow at the loss, and hope that some form of structure could be erected to tell the story of the settlement of Western Canada beyond Winnipeg.
